-Discovery of the Tarangire National Park. Former hunting ground declared National Park in 1970, Tarangire is the sixth largest park in the country. Its name would come from the Tarangire River which, from south to north, crosses it. With an area of 2 600 km2, it has an astonishing plant diversity (sausage trees, acacias tortellis…) but is most famous for the huge baobabs dotting its rocky slopes. The park also offers a very diverse fauna. Many birds have been recorded there: Ironworkers, African Hoopoe, Kingfishers, ostriches, Kori geese, serpentaires, marabouts and vultures. The Savannah of the Tarangire Park is also the hâbitat of many animals. Thus, if the park is mainly known to host one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa, it also houses many other residents. Impalas, Waterbuck, Buffaloes, Hartebeest, Cape Elk, kudu or even hyraxes live there. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are also present but are more difficult to see because of the high grasses.

Day 4 Ngorongoro Karatu-Serengeti Seronera (154 kms)

-Departure from Ngorongoro and road to the Serengeti. The road leads to the northwest. Leaving the fertile Highlands area with its coffee and tea plantations the road passes through the open plains of the Serengeti where Maasai pastors co-exist with African fauna. Ride of 3-5 hours approx. *.

-Picnic Dinner

-Discovery of the Serengeti National Park. Created in 1951, the Serengeti (coming from Siringet, the “Endless plain” in the Maa-language of the Masai language) is one of the largest parks in Africa. With an area of 14 800 km2, it is adjacent to the Ngorongoro in the east and the Maasai Mara (Kenya) in the north. It is a magical place as well for the beauty and diversity of its landscapes (plains, savannahs to Acacias, hills, large wooded areas) as for the variety of its animals. The Serengeti National Park is home to a considerable fauna in all seasons: Gazelles, antelopes, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, jackals, warthogs, monkeys… all are gathered there. Elephants, hippos and crocodiles are also among the main residents of the park. Finally, more than 500 species of birds have been identified, including ostriches, geese and serpentaires. The park is also known for its many predators: more than a thousand lions, hundreds of cheetahs, many hyenas and a few leopards are counted. While lions are more visible near streams (especially on the outskirts of the Seronera River), cheetahs and hyenas are present on the plains.

Covered by the uninterrupted columns of zebras and wildebeest during the migration of the month of May, the savannah permanently houses a resident fauna of tâchetées hyenas and jackals who will probably be among the first animals to welcome you. The former are accustomed to digging their burrows at the edges of the slopes, the latter occupying the holes left vacant by their powerful counterparts scavengers

Day 7 Crater of Ngorongoro

-Discovery of the conservation area of the Ngorongoro. Originally incorporated in the Serengeti National Park, the area is not a national park. It was founded in 1959, following a conflict between the national parks and the Masai, as a nature reserve to protect an exceptional fauna but also as a land of reception and protection of the Masai. Its name comes from the Warriors of the tribe once implanted in the crater: the Likorongoros (name distorted in Ngorongoro by the German settlers). The conservation area of the Ngorongoro extends over nearly 8 288 km2, of which 890 km2 are occupied by the forest of the chain of volcanoes. Theatre of all the scenes of the wild life, the Ngorongoro offers a great diversity of backgrounds: swamps, meadows, forests, streams, savannas… The crater itself covers almost 260 km2. Classified as a World Heritage site, it is in fact a caldera, a former gigantic volcano, which collapsed nearly 2.5 million years ago covering the territories around Ashes. During the descent that will take you there, you will enjoy a spectacular panorama on the inside of the crater. From the heights you will already be looking at the dark tasks of the first large herds. You will find the largest animal density in Africa. There are thus some 20 000 heads, of which nearly 55 species of mammals: ostriches, Kori geese, dwarf flamingos, crowned cranes, zebras, gazelles, warthogs, Wildebeest, Hartebeest… all are present. Elk, jackal, black rhinoceros and some servals are also among the main tenants. The Ngorongoro also hosts many predators such as hyenas, lions and leopards. Cheetahs, giraffes, hartebeest and impalas, however, lack the call.
